If You Can't Join Them, Beat Them. The David Moore Story.

Let's take it back to Summer 2011. I was working at Hollister and was friends with a lot of the guys there who had their own Fantasy Football league and I wanted in. Mind you, I wanted in the previous year but they didn't let me. The league commissioner, Wyatt (shout out to you man!), hit me up and said "I can get you in the league. Just come up with an alias." And so David Moore was born. And no, I'm not talking about the WR on the Seahawks.

David was just a friend of Wyatt's who needed a league to join. That's the story everyone was told. The draft started, all 12 of us created our teams, and that was that. I WAS IN. No one was any the wiser. Every week at work these guys would talk about football, their rosters ups, who their sleepers are, right in front of me and they had no idea. I'd kick their ass one week and they'd complain about this random guy beating them.

It was my first time playing fantasy so I'm not going to pretend that I was some fantasy guru because I wasn't. I could hold my own but I still had some work to do. I couldn't tell you what my record was at the end of the season but I know I ended up being 5th place after losing in the first round of playoffs. But to be honest, I was just happy that I made it to playoffs.

After it was all said and done, I posted a status on Facebook something along the lines of "When you sneak into your coworkers fantasy team under an alias name just to prove that you can hang with the boys" and I tagged every single one of them. They were all shocked to find out but they were all good sports about it.

Since then I had always been invited back into the league. I finally earned the respect that I deserved because let's be honest, I know my shit. I've always been thankful for Wyatt getting me a spot and for all the guys being cool about it. So although my David Moore is dead, I am reminded of him when I hear the name David Moore being called during a game (and yes, NOW I'm talking about the Seahawks WR) and it always brings a smile to my face.
